what's the shit filter?
Back in the day, every story sent to the Law of the Playground went into a queue, and an editor approved it, rejected it, deleted it, or left it hanging. Only the approved ones ever made it onto the site. But we never actually threw anything away.
The Shit Filter™ lets you see the rest. Each step down includes everything above it, plus a fresh layer of dross. You might also catch the editors chatting among ourselves, and meet Edward Cockfingers, the imaginary editor we'd throw the worst entries to.
You're on the clean setting, so you're only seeing the stuff we approved. The filter bar at the top of every page moves you between levels, and keeps you on the same page where it can. Nothing is remembered: no cookies, so it's just where you are.
Search engines are asked not to index anything below the clean level, so the filthy stuff won't follow anyone around.
